Microgreens
Microgreens are small, nutrient-packed plants harvested just days after germination, when their first leaves emerge bursting with flavor, color and concentrated vitamins.
At BLOOOM, they are not just crops, they’re a gateway to inclusion and empowerment.
Explore how we grow them!
What You’ll Learn About Microgreens
On this page, we’ll walk you through the whole process on how microgreens are grown, why they're a game changer in sustainable food systems and how BLOOOM integrates them into vocational training for young adults with intellectual disabilities.
Why Microgreens
Nutrient-Rich Superfoods
Microgreens are concentrated in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, offering more nutritional value per gram than most mature vegetables.
They promote heart health, reduce inflammation and support a balanced diet.
Perfect for Urban Farming
Fast growing and space efficient, microgreens thrive indoors and require minimal equipment.
This makes them ideal for schools, community centers or any location wanting to teach agriculture and sustainability in a hands-on way.
Educational
Impact
Microgreens provide an engaging, sensory learning experience that teaches responsibility, teamwork and environmental awareness.
Perfect for inclusive classrooms and vocational training programs.
How to Microgreens
Watch our step by step guide on how to grow microgreens the BLOOOM way.
This process is clean, simple and suitable for all abilities, perfect for integrating into classrooms, vocational programs or home setups.
Our sustainable practices
Founded with a commitment to neurodiversity and inclusivity, BLOOOM combines sustainable agriculture and employment opportunities for young adults with intellectual disabilities.
Our model uses microgreens as a medium for skill building, confidence and independence.

Microgreens Explained
Light, Warmth and Airflow
Microgreens thrive in consistent indoor conditions.
After germination in darkness, they need 12–16 hours of light per day to trigger photosynthesis and develop chlorophyll, what gives them their rich green color and nutritional density.
Good airflow prevents mold and strengthens stems, preparing them for a healthy harvest.
Moisture and Growing Medium
Instead of deep soil, microgreens grow in shallow trays with natural fiber mats or light potting mix. These materials retain just enough moisture for roots to absorb oxygen and nutrients without drowning.
Regular misting keeps the balance right, humid but not wet, ensuring uniform and safe growth.
Nutrients
& Timing
Because microgreens are harvested within 7–10 days, they rely mostly on the energy stored inside the seed. They don’t require external fertilizers, making them clean and simple to grow indoors.
Their short life cycle concentrates nutrients and flavor, which is why they’re denser in vitamins and minerals than mature plants.
